Connections Location Service

When exporting your LinkedIn connections, the files does not include location or industry- something that can seriously limit business processes. This location information is critical in order to understand your network and contact people directly without the limitations of the LinkedIn platform. It's massively beneficial for everything from Marketing to Recruiting. But there is absolutely no way of doing this without dozens of hours of manual entry. Until now.

Here at Moonlight we constantly develop advanced, cutting-edge data analysis tools to understand, map and contact candidates in the medical field. One of our major long-term projects was to create a capability that gives us full domain awareness into all of our LinkedIn networks in real-time. We spent years creating a process that can take any LinkedIn contacts file and add a location and industry column with 100% accuracy, which we use internally for recruiting purposes. But since 2018 we have opened up this proprietary workflow to the public to benefit any professional wanting more transparency into their own business networks.

Our turnkey solution can take any LinkedIn contacts file and fill out the locations and industry with 100% accuracy. We already have hundreds of happy customers who finally can see their entire networks. Take advantage of our Talent Acquisition workflows and saving hundreds of hours with our LinkedIn data service!

How it works:

You simply send us your exported LinkedIn file, and we will do the rest. We offer a no risk 100% money back guarantee, so there is no risk on your end. We send a truncated version of the file back to you that shows exactly how many have locations we filled in so you can review it first, so you can change your mind with no problem. Payment is only on completion and satisfaction, and only for the locations we were able to fill in and validate. Frequently asked questions about our service are answered below, but we are happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Pricing is calculated per location that we fill in at .02 per line. For example, 5,000 contacts would be $100 USD or less, depending on how many locations are validated. Special pricing for files over 10K is available, so please let us know if you are over this number and we will give you a quote. If your file is under 10,000 contacts, simply times .02 by your number of contacts and that is the price.

Turnaround time is 2-5 business days. We usually return the finished file within two days but due to having to re-code the software when LinkedIn's security algorithms occasionally shift, we can only guarantee under a week.

To order, simply email your connections file to our analytics lead Matt:

Frequently Ask Questions:

Why does it take up to a week?

Part of our software interfaces with LinkedIn directly in order to validate the latest location of the individual. LinkedIn is constantly shifting their site architecture and security algorithms, so it can take our systems offline until we manually re-code. Our team has to re-write parts of the program by hand when LinkedIn changes, and if this happens it could take up to 5 days to fix and get the file back to you. We always try to get the files done as quickly as possible, usually under a day or two, but we give ourselves a week just to give us the time if LinkedIn shifts, which happens a couple times a month. 90% of the time we have the file completed in under 2 days.

Can you work on any contacts file, or just a LinkedIn file?

We can only use a connections file that was directly downloaded from LinkedIn and not modified or had columns added to it, such as a database.

Can you use files from non-US profiles?

We can, but not with as much accuracy. LinkedIn has differently designed sites for different countries, and our process uses the US LinkedIn site, so it is difficult to process files that are downloaded from profiles that are located in other countries. We can run these files, but will only be able to validate around 70% instead of 90%.

What format are the locations in?

Exactly letter-for-letter as the individual lists their location on LinkedIn. Sometimes this might be "Dayton, Ohio" or just a city such as "Geneva". It depends on how their profile lists displays it. We can manually break out the locations into city, state and country into separate columns if you prefer it that way for no extra cost.

Is my data safe? What do you do with my contacts file?

LinkedIn now only exports the emails of people who have allowed their email to be exported by their connections, so there are no longer emails in the “email” column. So the only data you send us is publicly available.

Why are 90-95% of contacts filled in, not 100%?

We strive to fill in and validate 100% of the contacts, and sometimes are able to, but there are a few factors which can limit us. Foreign profiles are difficult to validate because characters in other languages (Thai, Russian, Chinese etc) are not translated by Excel very well, and are not searchable. Some profiles hide their location, even from 1st connections, and some profiles will have changed their job or company between the time you export your connections and we start working on them. Some profiles have their locations listed as “other” so we don’t include those. We do not want to fill in guesses, so we leave any profiles we can't 100% validate blank so that your data is completely accurate.

Who would benefit from this service?

While we originally designed this ability for us and initially just opened it up to other recruiters we work with, this service benefits anyone who wants transparency into their networks, from CEOs to junior marketers. This "work around" is the first of it's kind and is helping professionals across the world leverage their LinkedIn networks and turn their profiles into a working database.

Can you use other data files, such as Facebook contacts or CRM data?

Not with the same accuracy. Our system only validates locations via LinkedIn, so we cannot confirm the locations of people who are not on LinkedIn. So we only accept exported LinkedIn contact files.

What if I change my mind while you are working on the file, or it’s to expensive?

No worries. We send a truncated version of the file along with the final price, to first show you exactly what the file looks like and spot check it for accuracy before payment. If it’s not what you were looking for, no worries! We will not send the full-functionality Excel file and no payment is due. If it is what you were hoping for, just PayPal us the final price we mentioned and we will reply with the full file in whatever format you desire. All data is sent in the latest Excel format for easy upload into a database or CRM system.

Why is it so expensive?

The software we developed integrates into a data service that is quite pricey. So not only does it take us man hours to adjust the coding and manage the files, it also costs us to run them. We keep it as low as possible because we want to make this capability open to as many people as possible. We only make a few dollars per file we process, and we provide special pricing on large files to make them more affordable.

Is it legal and is there any risk?

Yes and there is zero risk. Courts have ruled that LinkedIn/ Microsoft does not own the personal information on the site, which means that pulling publicly available data is perfectly legal and ethical, as long as you don't log in to the site to do it (which we don't). Our process is completely untraceable and anonymous and is zero risk to you. Other softwares that try to do this can get a LinkedIn profile shut down by LinkedIn, but our service has zero risk to you. LinkedIn has such powerful internal security algorithms, it's impossible to scrape anyways. So our methods are legal and completely off the grid. Zero risk to you and us!
